Wensum River Fly Monitoring
The Riverfly monitoring scheme has been run in some locations for many years, these at places like Bintree Mill and Norfolk Flyfishers at Swanton Morley. Following a national survey undertaken by the then Salmon and Trust Association back in 2019, the Wensum was deemed to be effectively dead in terms of its invertebrate life.
This led to the WCP setting up an end to end catchment monitoring scheme on invertebrates, adopting the protocols and measures defined within the Freshwater Biological Association scheme of Riverfly. This was clearly stalled by COVID, but we have created a new volunteer structure for Norfolk with accredited trainers and now have 24 volunteers accredited to take part in the scheme.
Below are some of the results and facts about the scheme.
